January 29, 2013: Sigby Closes More than $1.2M Seed Round of Funding
The best way to book kids’ activities or classes ranging from sports to dance to languages to summer camps and more
SEATTLE – Sigby, a one-stop site for parents to find and purchase kids’ activities, classes and camps, announced today that it has closed a seed round of funding for more than $1.2M with Trilogy Equity Partners, WRF Capital, and Clear Fir, as well as other angel investors.
Sigby plans to use the funds to continue to grow its presence in the Seattle area, as well as expand to other markets beyond Puget Sound.
“For exasperated parents, there’s no other place like Sigby,” said Loretta Little, Managing Director, WRF Capital. “It truly is a one-stop site that is so convenient. We see the great opportunity and we look forward to helping Sigby continue to innovate and expand its reach to parents everywhere.”
As a free service, Sigby is transforming the way parents find, plan and book the best classes, camps and activities for their kids. Designed by parents for parents, Sigby has thousands of activities from known and innovative program providers – all easily searchable by interest, age, location, and other important criteria not found through a regular search engine.
With everything all in one place, and only one universal registration form for each child, Sigby helps parents plan with others and book classes through simple innovative ways, saving parents hours of previously wasted time. Parents can now easily find that great birthday party idea, quickly sign up with pals for summer camps, or find fun adventures and experiences for their kids after school and during school vacations.
There is also no cost to program providers to be listed on the site. Sigby’s success-based model means program providers only pay a nominal fee based upon an additional booking received. As an innovative new marketing channel, Sigby’s goal is to help fill the classes and camps by finding parents that don’t already know about the organization.
“As a mother of two kids, I would spend hours and hours trying to sign my kids up for various activities – brochures and email threads everywhere, endless paperwork, it was nuts – and then it would take me just minutes to book a multi city trip across the country. Go figure,” said Sigby founder Katie Thompson, a former venture capitalist and technology executive.
“The more parents and program providers I spoke with, I realized that this was a big problem that needed to be solved. Parents and program providers deserve better,” Thompson added.
With a wide array of great programs for kids, the market of kids’ out of school activities now represents a $35-40 billion industry.
“Sigby has tapped into a market opportunity with a simple idea that addresses a very complicated issue for parents,” said Mikal Thomsen, Managing Director, Trilogy Equity Partners. “The strong team of parents and technology executives who founded Sigby has a unique combination of business expertise and parenting insight that makes this a solid investment for us.”
